The Baldeo Sahu Mahavidyala, also known as the B. S. College, was founded on 15th August, 1962 to commemorate the 16th anniversary of India's independence. The college received provisional affiliation from Ranchi University on 23rd April, 1963 and permanent affiliation on 26th April, 1968. The college started offering honours courses in Economics, History, Sanskrit and Urdu from the academic session of 1969-70. The college also introduced the Faculty of Science in the next session. In 1977, the college became a constituent unit of the university. The honours courses in Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Zoology were launched in the year 2009.
